Last night was nice. Joe and Matt invited me out to dinner for some shabu-shabu. K....for those of you whose eyes just lit up, it's food, not the other stuff. I brought some money along, but was promptly denied. I guess it's tradition to take out the newby at least once. Ah, ok. Shabu-shabu....how can I explain it? It was really pretty good, and I even got mine without meat. Everyone sits around a low-sitting table. (They provide lovely seating mates for your pleasure.) It starts out with lots of little side dishes that you pick at (normal for any restaurant meal). Then out comes a big plate of various mushrooms and lettuces, which you place in the pot of boiling water that's conveniantly on the table in the burner in front of you. Than if you're a meat eater, out comes some thinly sliced, rolled beef of some sort that you also toss in the water. Sounds strange, but you dish it out with your chopsticks and dip and eat it with a lemon sauce. Pretty tasty. That's just for starters. As you munch of this, they bring out home-made noodles for a soup. This gets thrown in the water and soon, it's ready you too dig in too. Mmmm.....mmmmm.....good. Campbells should call these folks. Lastly out comes some rice with small sliced veggies and seaweed. This gets warmed up in the last of the water, and then it's all for you to gobble down. Really a rather pleasant meal. The boys did good.
